I created Grands-Raising-Grands for those of us who are on this journey together. Those of us who are determined to keep our families together. Whether it's temporary, I've been there, or permanent, and I'm here now. I have been blessed with 8 grandchildren, although sadly 3 of them are deceased. Both of my grown children have their own battles with addiction. I can't write about something I haven't experienced. I've been told many times that I should write a book on the ups and downs that I've faced with my children and grandchildren. I'm 53 years old born and raised in the upstate of South Carolina with full custody of and raising a seven-year-old boy. A book? Heavens No. A blog? We shall see......
Have you ever been somewhere and the conversation leads to your response of “Me too!” During the moments of catching your breath do you stop and think, “How did we make it this far? Or how do others like me do this?” I personally do not have exact numbers or even the slightest guestimate, but I am sure there are thousands of those just like me, you, and us …a Grandparent raising a Grandchild. Out of my born and bred passion for helping others, www.grands-raising-grands.com has come to life.
It has taken me years to build my confidence and trust in myself to make this blog become a reality. Many a person told me I would never make it come to fruition. Too busy, too tired, too sassy, not educated or knowledgeable enough. Well I’m sorry but I don’t ask the other parents at the neighborhood park if they “matriculated from college” before we chat. Blindness becomes hearing. Silence become vision. This idea has burned at my soul for three years. Now by the Grace of God I am going to fulfill my purpose of H.O.P.E. Helping Other People Everyday (Hope is my middle name so my mama named me right, Ha!)
I will tell my story like it is. The way I live it. Not based on statistics, books, or scripts. True-life everyday events that define who my family is and how we keep going. I would LOVE to hear your stories too! I never understood how a non-grandparent or non-parent could write a book on raising one or two or a herd of young’uns. Yes, I’m sassy. My words sometimes slide around the stop sign in my brain. I have no problem admitting my screw-ups. I use laughter, love, scripture, and pass on knowledge from all of you. We are all teachers here. Here we will be truthful not hurtful. No being disrespectful. I make no promises that you will like what I say. I do promise I only want to have everyone here H.O.P.E. (I’ll share my list of ideas on this later) Know this. You have found a friend, and encourager, someone that travels the road like you. Breathe easier. www.grands-raising-grands.com will share the journey with you.
“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence, there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore” (Psalm 16:11)
Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. ( Proverbs 22:6 )
Y’all ready? Grab a beverage of choice, take a potty break, sit back and join me …

Chores. How Many? Payment? How long after your grands came to you did you introduce chores? I started serious chores just this year. Summertime is outdoor time in our house. The sun is a magnet for my little one. He checks the window and if there’s no rain its coffee time, potty time, then all day play time. (My muscles just cringed remembering summer is almost here) So here’s a few things from our outdoor fun to-do-list: Scavenger Hunts […]
Here I was, party of one very happily divorced. One person, one income, and one very demanding job in Public Safety.
